On today’s episode, I’m talking with a gentleman who works as a business coach, podcaster and author who has been living full-time in an RV since 2019.
Tim Winders and his wife embraced the RV lifestyle as a way to travel without the hassle of packing and unpacking.
They’ve customized their 40-foot Class A motorhome into a functional home and workspace, which allows them to work remotely from virtually anywhere.
Tim shares how they live, work and explore without ever having worked what others might call a traditional Workamping job.
One of Tim’s favorite things about the RV lifestyle is the ability to avoid tourist crowds and discover places at a slower pace.
Whether it’s the Black Hills of South Dakota, the Arizona desert in winter, or the stunning coastlines of Oregon, Tim and his wife prefer to hang out in each destination long enough to feel like locals.
Tim is a great example of how modern technology and a purpose-driven mindset can open up incredible lifestyle opportunities for people who want to work while traveling.
Tim earns a living by coaching business leaders, writing inspirational fiction, and hosting his podcast, which is titled “Seek Go Create: The Leadership Journey.”
With clients located across the country, he frequently conducts Zoom meetings from his customized office space inside their motorhome.
His wife, an operations expert, occasionally helps with the backend of his business, but also enjoys doing crafts and running a virtual Etsy shop.
Together, they’ve built a life around flexibility, purpose and simplicity. He especially appreciates the freedom to stay close to their granddaughters and to follow good weather. Tim has become what he jokingly refers to as a “weather snob.”
Because his business requires Tim to travel, they also keep proximity to airports in mind when choosing where to park next.
Reliable internet is a must for Tim, and after trying all the traditional hotspots, he now relies almost entirely on Starlink for his connectivity needs. He credits the satellite service with giving him the bandwidth he needs to coach clients, record high-quality podcast interviews and stay in touch with family.
Tim offered some wise advice to anyone considering the RV lifestyle or Workamping as a career change: try it out first. Before selling a home and diving in headfirst, rent or borrow an RV, spend a few weeks in it, and even “apprentice” at a Workamping job to see how it fits your lifestyle and personality.
