Today, I’ll speak with two couples who are exploring the RV and Workamping lifestyle.
My first guests are Ronnie and Marci Stacy, who are from Dayton, Ohio. They have been weekend warriors for quite a while, but plan to embrace full-time RVing this spring.
Ronnie is a garage door installer and Marci oversees the transcription staff at a children’s hospital.
They attended the 2019 Workamper Rendezvous in October to gather more information to develop a three-year plan for hitting the road.
One of their primary concerns was getting health insurance on the road, and they share what they discovered about that at the event.
Although they will have pensions to help support their lifestyle, they are also exploring ideas for starting a mobile business. For example, Ronnie is contemplating setting up clinics for youth sports coaches around the country.
One thing they enjoyed about the event was the ability to participate in an open house at the campground where they were staying. The couple had an opportunity to tour the RVs of people who are already full-timing to see how they organized their living space and what type of modifications they made.
The Stacys already have their RV, and after Rendezvous, Ronnie and Marci have a plan. They are just counting down until they are both semi-retired so they could hit the road.
My second guests are Olen and Jeanette Criswell, who are from Peoria, Illinois. Olin is a night dispatcher at a transportation company. He, too, is going to retire in 2020. However, neither of them wants to spend retirement sitting in a rocking chair on the front porch.
They are highly motivated to travel and plan to start by touring the southwestern states of Arizona and New Mexico. Olen and Jeanette actually want to visit all four corners of the United States, but are really looking forward to touring west of the Mississippi.
They appreciated Workamper Rendezvous for the opportunity to meet people who have been full-time RVing. They also learned how to set up their RVs and what types of jobs they could find as Workampers.
Olen is intrigued by the idea of becoming an RV service technician to help his neighbors at campgrounds they visit. He is also exploring the possibility of becoming a certified RV inspector.
They really appreciated sitting in on the session with Mark Kohler, who is both an attorney and a certified public accountant, and share some of the information they picked up in Mark’s seminar.
Olen and Jeanette Criswell were ideal candidates for the Workamper Rendezvous because they were exploring the RV lifestyle, had some questions and needed a little direction.
They discovered that they could make money working part-time jobs wherever they go, or pursue owning an RV-based business as a technician or inspector.
They have spent several summers working in Alaska to support the cruise industry, but now they want to get behind the wheel of their land cruiser and discover America.
Whatever questions Olen and Jeanette may have had were answered at Rendezvous, including trying to decide whether they should sell their home and live full time in their RV.
If you’re exploring the RV lifestyle and trying to decide if this would be a good move for you, then plan to attend the 2020 Workamper Rendezvous Oct. 19 to 23 in Heber Springs, Ark. More information will be posted soon at www.workamperevent.com.
