Today, we’re heading to the stunning Flathead Valley of Montana, just outside Glacier National Park, to speak with the owner of Bad Rock Bed and Breakfast Inn.
For the past six seasons, Bill Evans and his wife, Roslyn, have run the traditional bed and breakfast on a working farm, complete with hay fields, chickens and soon, goats.
As the fifth-largest bed and breakfast in Montana, Bad Rock offers more than cozy accommodations; it delivers unforgettable Glacier experiences and a warm, family-style atmosphere where guests and staff feel right at home.
While Bad Rock’s 2025 season is already staffed, Bill is now recruiting for 2026 and beyond. He’s looking for couples who enjoy teamwork, have a positive attitude and can communicate well.
Although solo applicants might be considered on a case-by-case basis, the best fit tends to be couples willing to jump in where needed and help each other out.
Winter positions are available as well, although those are volunteer-based and focused more on house-sitting and light maintenance.
Bad Rock Bed and Breakfast isn’t your typical Workamping job. It’s a charming inn nestled in Columbia Falls, Mont., where hospitality meets heart and hard work comes with breathtaking views of Big Sky Country.
Just 18 miles from the west entrance of Glacier National Park, Bad Rock serves as a basecamp for adventurers, and Bill and Roslyn make sure guests and Workampers are well taken care of.
For Workampers, the opportunity includes more than just a full-hookup RV site and a $600 monthly stipend. It’s a chance to be part of a small, close-knit team where everyone wears a couple of hats and contributes to the smooth running of the bed-and-breakfast inn as well as the farm.
Whether it’s cooking hearty breakfasts, gardening, landscaping, tending to chickens, or helping with light handyman tasks, there’s something to match a wide range of Workamper interests and skill sets.
Workampers typically work just three hours a day, five days a week. That leaves plenty of time to explore the park, float down the river, or enjoy the many local attractions, including rodeos and farmers markets or ziplining and kayaking.
Bill and Roslyn even plan community activities for the staff to make the experience feel more like an extended family outing than just a summer job.
